I had an Impreza almost the same age as that one, amazingly fun car considering it only has the 170 hp engine.

Man, I do miss NYC. I know, a lot of you Kramericans wont agree with me (who the hell wants to go voluntarily to NYC?!?!?), but as a European, I did enjoy strawling through NY city streets...

Had an ‘88 myself - 5M wagon, medium gray. Bulletproof.

If it’s the wheels you’re referring to, I like them as well, and I usually don’t like aftermarket wheels.

That’s almost as bad as those little family stickers on the back of mommy’s Dodge Caravan. I don’t care if you have 4 children and 2 dogs.

The Toyobaru crowd is really into stickers - most of them I see seem to have stickers. Look at me, I have an enthusiast car! Kind of the stick figure thing for single (or regrettably attached) under-40 year old guys.

mine was auto, but it was treated as a manual...oh the mean things we did to that car.

So trucklike (b/c it is ...) - the better idea was and is the Highlander. When a taxi pulls up and it’s that SUV, I am very pleased - comfortable seats, smooth ride. Best in class, in my opinion.

I may be in the minority, but I’d keep that car very very stock - I want the low power and the ability to stick the tail out with those skinny tires. In fact, I talked a friend into NOT buying one. First, I made her get a pre-purchase inspection on an S4. It needed an engine. Then she asked me about the Toyobaru, and I said it’s OK if you’re not driving in shit weather, which she has to do (out on Long Island) - she did not know from RWD. I suggested a GTI, and she got one. Mission accomplished.

Second gear dropped out about 300 miles outside of the warranty. They blamed my shifting technique, I said they were full of shit. I said give me a Supra to demonstrate - got to drive one! Took the service manager out, showed her that I could drive a stick properly, and the dealership agreed to pay for half the transmission rebuild. $2400 later I had a working Camry. Turned out that the manual gearbox in those cars wasn’t quite up to snuff.

No Starbucks for me since 2003 - coffee sucks and they took over a coffee kiosk in Bryant Park (that I frequented) in 2003 and made it worse.

I would keep most cars stock. Mods become tasteful or ironic very quickly, skating on thin ice.

Hey, you kept her out of a CUV, good job.

We work with what we have ... and I am pleased when I help people avoid the wrong automotive decision.
